Grounding Spirituality: Returning to Yourself Without Escaping Reality

By Kiernan Garvie — Ki’smet Co

I think a lot of people are craving spirituality right now.

But not in the way they used to.

People are tired of:

  • fear-based messaging

  • spiritual superiority

  • pretending to be “high vibe” all the time

  • bypassing real emotions

  • disconnecting from reality in the name of healing

People want something real now.

Something grounded.

At Ki’smet Co in Saskatoon, grounding spirituality is one of the biggest foundations of my work.

Because spirituality should not pull you away from yourself.

It should bring you back to yourself.

What Is Grounding Spirituality?

Grounding spirituality means staying connected to:

  • your body

  • your emotions

  • your nervous system

  • your intuition

  • your humanity

  • your real life

It is not about escaping pain or pretending difficult emotions don’t exist.

It is about creating enough safety and awareness to move through life more consciously.

Grounded spirituality says:

You can be spiritual and still be human.

You can:

  • have emotions

  • feel overwhelmed

  • need support

  • struggle sometimes

  • rest

  • set boundaries

  • be healing and still be learning

That is real spirituality to me.

Spirituality Should Feel Safe — Not Fearful

One thing I care deeply about is creating emotionally safe healing spaces.

I don’t believe spirituality should leave people:

  • scared

  • dependent

  • disconnected from reality

  • ashamed

  • afraid of themselves

  • afraid of energy

  • constantly searching for what’s “wrong” with them

Healing should create clarity.

Not fear.

Support.

Not dependency.

Grounding.

Not emotional chaos.

The Nervous System Matters in Spiritual Work

This is something I think many healing spaces overlook.

People cannot fully connect spiritually when their nervous systems still feel unsafe.

When someone has been living in:

  • chronic stress

  • emotional overwhelm

  • survival mode

  • burnout

  • hypervigilance

Their body is often focused on protection first.

That’s why grounding practices matter so deeply.

Grounding helps people reconnect with:

  • the present moment

  • emotional safety

  • their bodies

  • calm

  • clarity

  • self-awareness

Not by forcing healing.

But by creating enough stability for healing to naturally unfold.

What Grounding Can Look Like

Grounding is not always dramatic.

Sometimes grounding looks like:

  • slowing down

  • breathing deeply

  • sitting quietly

  • reconnecting with your body

  • resting without guilt

  • emotional honesty

  • being present

  • drinking water

  • walking outside

  • receiving support

  • allowing yourself to soften

Simple things matter.

The nervous system responds to safety more than intensity.

My Approach to Grounded Healing

At Ki’smet Co, my approach blends:

  • grounded Reiki

  • nervous system support

  • emotional healing

  • intuitive development

  • energetic awareness

  • sovereignty

  • calming support

Without losing connection to real life.

Because I don’t believe healing is about becoming untouchable or “perfect.”

I think healing is about becoming more connected:

  • to yourself

  • to your body

  • to your truth

  • to your emotional awareness

  • to your ability to feel safe being fully human

You Don’t Need to Escape Yourself to Heal

I think many people have spent years trying to become someone else in order to feel worthy, spiritual, healed, or enough.

But healing is not about abandoning yourself.

It is about returning to yourself gently.

Groundedly.

Safely.

And remembering you were never meant to carry everything alone.
